About

Freedom Fitouts gives you the freedom you deserve—no matter what you drive. We specialise in creating functional, comfortable designs that maximise space—and make you feel at home wherever you are on the road.

Built and operated from our workshop in the Northern Rivers.

The Freedom Fit Out Story

Hey! I’m Jono. Welcome to Freedom Fitouts.

My journey started fresh out of a carpentry apprenticeship.

After building my first set-up in the back of my 2002 Troopy, I travelled full-time for several years and became obsessed with checking out other travellers’ setups—seeing what worked, what didn’t, and how small changes could make a space feel more like home.

What started as a passion project for mates soon turned into Freedom Fitouts—and a way to help others experience the same feeling I found on the road: freedom.

Now based in the Northern Rivers, I transform vehicles into functional, beautiful living spaces designed for real adventures.

My approach is completely personal, so whether you’re keen to drop by the workshop, call with a question or email me an idea—I’m here to help.

From full fit outs to small upgrades, every project gets the same attention and care.

The Freedom Fit Out Process

The Freedom Fit Out Process

We aim to keep the fit out process as easy as possible, and operate from our workshop in Cabarita—20 minutes south of the Gold Coast, and half an hour north of Byron Bay.

If you’re local, swing by the workshop for a chat, give us a call, or send an email to get things rolling—we’ll go over your ideas and dial in the design!

Whether it’s a full fit out or a small upgrade, we’ll craft a space that works for you. Expect regular updates along the way—though we like to save a little surprise for the final reveal.

Some things to consider when building your dream van!

Buying a used van?
Remember these tips.

Buying a used van is a smart way to start your van life adventure or upgrade your work vehicle without overspending. But not all vans are road-trip ready—here’s what to look for to avoid headaches down the track.

  • Rust is a pretty common issue, especially in vans that have spent time near the coast. Look underneath, around wheel arches, and along door sills. Surface rust can be fixed, but deep corrosion could mean you’re a bit more strife.

  • A well-maintained van should have a record of regular servicing. Ask for receipts and check for major repairs like engine or transmission work. A missing service history? In dating talk… That’s a red flag.

  • Take the van for a proper test drive. Listen for any funky noises, watch for warning lights, and make sure it shifts smoothly—especially if it’s an auto.

  • Water leaks can lead to costly damage. Inspect around windows, doors, and the roof. Inside, watch for mould or water stains—or any signs that moisture has been a problem.

  • If you’re planning a van conversion, good wiring is key. Test all lights, indicators, and existing electrical components. If the van’s been converted before, make sure the wiring is safe and up to standard.
